From Nador to Barcelona: audiovisual production and academic exchange to build inclusive narratives on migration

As part of the project ‘Inclusive narratives and transformative communication: education and awareness-raising on migration in academic contexts: Nador–Barcelona’, a group of students from Nador visited Barcelona from 18 to 21 October to take part in a range of educational and academic exchange activities. The visit built on the work begun in Nador and focused on phase 3 of the project, dedicated to content production.

‘The Invisible Toll’: producing a short film

One of the main activities during this phase was the filming of the short film ‘The Invisible Toll’, directed by Claudio Rojas, from Cocinema. Through this experience, the students took part in an audiovisual creative process aimed at developing new ways of communicating and engaging with the realities of migration.

Academic exchange within the Interuniversity Master’s Degree in Contemporary Migration

The programme also included the group’s participation in a session of the Interuniversity Master’s Degree in Contemporary Migration (UAB–UB). The meeting provided an opportunity to share experiences and reflections with the master’s students, creating a space for dialogue between students from both academic contexts.

Exploring how Catalan media organisations work

The visit to Barcelona also included two meetings with media organisations in Catalonia, aimed at introducing the group to journalistic practice and the role of the media in shaping public discourse.

The group visited the newsroom of the newspaper ARA, where they gained first-hand insight into the organisation and operation of a Catalan media outlet, as well as aspects of journalistic work.

They also visited Catalunya Ràdio, where they toured the facilities and took part in a discussion about how the radio station operates and its role as a public service broadcaster.

These activities connected academic learning with communication practice and provided first-hand insight into content production processes across different formats and media.

The visit to Barcelona marks a new stage in the collaboration between Nador and Barcelona and reinforces the project’s aims: to foster academic exchange and promote the creation of inclusive and transformative narratives on migration.
